Search Engine Marketing and Optimization (SEM & SEO) are pretty mysterious concepts to most people. Most folks I speak with say "So how do I get on the first page of Google?". This is the right general direction. The truth is I set your site up to be visible by the major search engines and target the words your potential customers type in. This is a process of working with clients to get a good keyword list. There is no point in attracting the wrong type of clients to your site.

The process seems to work best in this order:

• Sitting down with clients and finding out who their customers are.

• Creating an initial keyword list
• Checking out the competition for these keywords
• Creating a master list
• Making changes to existing website text or creating new content for a new site
• Link Building
• Monitoring and tweaking each month for a period of 6 months

Social Media & Email Marketing

SM is all the rage these days. I find it to be a great medium for connecting with your existing customers as well as finding new ones. What many companies don't realize is that Social Media should go hand in hand with your Email Marketing. Encourage your mailing list to join your social networks by hosting promotions on Facebook & Twitter. It also works in reverse by telling your social media contacts about the valuable information they are missing from your newsletter. Some methods that seem to work are articles, coupons and sweepstakes and contests.
